In 1812, Wellington had a bloody nose when attacking Madrid with Hill.  The French captured 12 Key Duchies of Spain but failed to win (the chance is 50%) decisively in 1812.  In 1813, Wellington finally captured Madrid.  The French Armies under Marshal Soult and Joseph retired in good order after losing the Battle of Madrid. Beresford and the Spainsh army advanced to the French/Spanish Border in the North.  However, Marmont overran the British defenders in Portugal and laid Siege to Lisbon.
